Have you ever wondered how many animals benefit from the walls and roofs of our homes? Many species of wildlife present in Trieste play a fundamental role in maintaining the balance of the urban landscape that surrounds us.
In the last decades, many European countries have been moving towards a more inclusive urban design towards some wildlife animals species. Everyone can become the keeper of its house’s biodiversity. The interventions that aim to include and protect some species are often multiple, easy to implement and little known. For example, one action considered useful for the protection of urban wildlife is the installation of artificial nests.
Through my research thesis, I collected data by a survey design to acquire the perception that Trieste inhabitants have towards some wildlife species and the possibility of providing them artificial shelters.
This research took part at the Maker Faire Trieste edition 2021, in a lecture for students of the UniTS Department of Engineering and Architecture in Gorizia and in the Horti Petrarchini project led at Liceo Petrarca in Trieste.
