social wasps research (ongoing)
A mask series formed by assemblages of social wasps paper nests that offer an opportunity to observe these insects from a different point of view.
Social wasps generally make their architecture with cellulose, built by shredding and amalgamating dead wood fibers, plant stems and their saliva. The act of collecting different paper wasps nests is part of a process of study and representation of the territory: each nest tells a place, changing in shape and tone according to the type and availability of resources offered by the environment to these insects, fundamental to the ecosystem, but usually not always well appreciated by humans.
Terroirs had the chance to be shown during the ART CITY BOLOGNA 2023 in the exhibition Senza Sapere Dove, poetiche del fuori in Villa Davia at Sasso Marconi curated by Spazio Relativo and Laura Rositani in collaboration with Tatiana Basso.
Materials and technique: | paper of social wasps nest from subfamily Vespinae 21x22cm, paper of social wasps nest Vespa crabro 19x17.5cm |
